Beginning Woodfiring Workshop with Joe Robinson

12 people max. Indoor/Outdoor. Beginner friendly.

2 days making plus 3 days firing plus 1 day unloading.

Making and instruction: September 3-4

Load/fire: October 21-23

Unloading: Saturday October 29 

Included:

-2 days of making in the East Creek Studio

-25 lbs clay

-Bisque Firing for work made during studio weekend

-2 cubic feet in the Catenary Arch kiln

-2 cubic feet raku space

-Copy of the East Creek Handbook incl. written materials reccomendations

-Camping (tent or car) for making workshop, firing, and unloading

Local accomodations are available for a reasonable rate at the Wildwood Hotel in Willamina.

Join Joe Robinson for two days of making at the East Creek stuido during summertime, followed by a community firing of our catenary arch wood soda kiln in October.

During the making time, you'll get material instruction and have the opportunity to select and use reccomended materials at the East Creek studio. Then, use what you've learned to do your homework and make pieces for the October firing. Everything you need for wood firing beyond your bisque is provided, including wadding, glaze, and kiln sundries.

On Friday Oct. 21 we will share in the loading of the kiln and light with a small gas burner on Friday night.

Early Saturday morning 10/22 we will begin stoking wood and continue through shut down sometime on Sunday night, including the introduciton of soda sometime on Sunday. Also on Saturday we'll be conducting optional raku firing.

On Saturday night we'll enjoy a shared dinner, menu TBD based on participants.

On Saturday September 29 at 12:00 noon, we’ll unload the kiln and work together to clean up and grind shelves. Then, stay for an optional celebration and bonfire.
