NWWFC Pre-Conference Firing: East Creek

Arrival: Thursday May 26, 2:00p

Loading/Firing: May 27-29, 2022

Unloading: Sunday June 5, 2022 at 11:00a.

Join Joe Robinson, Aubrey Sloan, and the East Creek crew for a specially hosted guest experience at East Creek. Bring 3 cubic feet of work and enjoy East Creek's finer side. Camping is included; tiny cabin and airstream rental is available. 

Each of just 4 participants will receive:

-3 cubic feet of kiln space

-All required wadding and optionally, glaze (shino and tenmoku)

-included camping

-hosted amenities

(optional: add a tiny cabin or airstream)

Thursday 5/26

Arrive at East Creek on Thursday afternoon, May 26. After greeting and setting up camp/cabins, we'll have prep time (glazing, wadding, questions) in the studio, followed by a forest walk with local wine (weather permitting) and intimate studio dinner of surf and turf: grilled steak, salmon, potatoes and veggies.

Friday 5/27

We'll start loading around 11:00 as the rest of the crew arrives. While we wait for them, we'll enjoy fresh local pastries, fruit, and coffee bar. Loading will be led by Joe Robinson, Maya O'neil, and Sam Newman. Opportunities for conversation and participation throughout the day, as a concurrent glaze making workshop (also available on this site) will culminate in this firing. We'll brick and light the kiln Friday night and fire with gas overnight for a slow preheat. Dinner on your own (in town or use our shared grill/kitchen).

Saturday 5/28

We'll begin stoking wood on the 6:00a shift and stoke all day and night. On Saturday night, we'll make a large, traditional seafood paella.

Sunday 5/29

We will apply soda on Sunday, from mid-day till evening shut down. We will strive for cone 10 down all over the kiln with some limieted areas of cone 12 down. We will finish hot and will not conduct a reduction srtrike of any kind.

Saturday 6/4

(optional) Arrive for camping after closing of NW Wood Firing Conference

Sunday 6/5 

Unloading starts at 11:00. A conference concurrent event that's open to the public representing the East Creek kilns and community. At the conclusion of the unloading, we'll continue into (optional) celebration with a bonfire and music.

Covid Policy: East Creek requires COVID-19 vaccinations for all program participants over 18 years old. A vaccination exemption will be granted with a signed letter from a Medical Doctor only. We follow the recomendations of the Oregon Health Authority and mandates from the Governer's Office. Masks will be required onsite when Oregon Health Authority guidance requires it. We ask all participants to practice social distancing.
